FROM THE PASTOR
Dear Parishioners,
God hears and sees us in our distress and reaches out to heal and save us. In the first reading from the book of Exodus this weekend we hear the famous story of God appearing to Moses in the burning bush. He tells Moses that he has heard the cry of his people in slavery in Egypt and he commissions Moses to go and free them. Moses does not know what to make of this incident. He is fearful that Pharaoh will even ask, by who’s authority he is making this request. God does not relent. He tells Moses his name, “I am who I am.” Then he sends Moses forth. He will free his people from slavery.
In the gospel reading today, Jesus speaks about the ills that have befallen the people in two places. He asks, do you think it is because of their sins that they suffered these tragedies? Of course, the answer is no. Yet He tells the people that, unless they repent and change, similar or worse things will happen to them! God gives us chances to change. He sees us not only in the slavery of Egypt, but in the slavery that we have to sin in our lives. He reaches out to heal us and save us, but we have to respond. On this Third Sunday of Lent, let us set our gaze once again on the cross of Christ that He may heal us and save us. There is still time.
