Please keep in mind that, while many will be excited to return to Mass in person, others will feel less inclined to do so for a myriad of reasons. With this in mind, the Archbishop has extended the dispensation of the obligation to attend Sunday Mass; this extension will remain in effect throughout Phase II. Therefore, those who are vulnerable due to health reasons or uncomfortable attending Mass are encouraged to stay home and access the liturgy online.
Please know that we are looking forward to the day when we can safely welcome you back to Sacred Heart and we are working hard to complete a mandatory 18-point checklist that will be required of all parishes before we are allowed to open to the public again (once the county lifts the current restrictions). The maintenance team has ordered supplies and equipment that will allow us to sanitize our worship spaces between Masses and help us stay healthier as a community. Additionally, they have been working on designating the physical space inside the church, in order to make social distancing a reality while maximizing the 1/3 capacity rule, so that we can safely welcome as many people as possible back when the time comes. Thank you for continuing to offer your prayers and support during these challenging times!
The State of Maryland has posted a helpful map and chart of the status of each jurisdiction using the categories of Stage 1, Partial, and Closed. The chart is updated daily. While Phase I and II for the archdiocesan guidelines differ in both timing and other details from the State of Maryland’s Stage 1 guidance, there is general alignment between the State’s Stage 1 and Phase 2 of the Archdiocesan guidelines: Partial or Closed – Less than 10 including ministers
The following activities related to worship will be allowed even while Baltimore County is Closed or Partially Opened: Private Prayer/adoration, Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals, Reconciliation
Stage 1 – admissible after May 30 for Catholic parishes at 1/3 capacity with social distancing
The following activities related to worship will be allowed when Baltimore County permits us to enter Phase I: Private Prayer/adoration, Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals, Reconciliation, Public Mass, First Communion, RCIA Sacraments
***Dependent on jurisdiction and subject to change***
As of 5/22/20, Baltimore County posted the following guidelines for Religious Services: Until further notice, religious institutions may not begin holding worship services and ceremonies indoors. The restriction on gatherings of more than 10 people remains in place—and those restrictions will continue to apply to religious gatherings.
